Blue - and golden hour

High tide at the blue hour

Submitted by Jürgen Tenckhoff on Mon, 03/22/2021 - 13:07

The view over the Rhine to the west bank, including the crane houses, is impressive. At the blue hour, however, as soon as the windows of the offices are lit and reflected in the Rhine, this scene is again enhanced. Corresponding picture compositions can only be optimally realized if the blue hour takes place before the office closes, as otherwise the office rooms are not illuminated.

The Dolsandaegyo Bridge

To get to the best location for the view of the impressive "Dolsandaegyo Bridge", you either go up by elevator or by cable car from the other side to the park, which was created on a summit. As soon as you arrive, the friendly Koreans will "sort you" with the camera and there will be a lively exchange about all kinds of technical and cultural details.

Blue hour at the Oder in Wroclaw

Blue hour over the cathedral island on the Oder in Wroclaw - On the right you can see the two towers of the cathedral and in front of it the bishop's seat on the cathedral island in Wroclaw. The term island no longer applies, however, since Breslauer filled up the northern arm of the Oder. In good weather conditions you can take excellent pictures of these buildings with their reflections in the Oder. This photo succeeded in the end of the blue hour.

Hamburg at the blue hour

From the jetties in Hamburg you can reach an excellent photo spot through the Elbe tunnel. From here, the city panorama as well as the yacht harbor and the Elbphilamonie can be perfectly photographed at the blue hour and of course at other times of the day and night. In this photo a long exposure time was realized in order to harmonize the rather strong waves on the Elbe.

Photo technique: "Blue Hour"

Submitted by Jürgen Tenckhoff on Sun, 10/15/2017 - 18:55

The blue hour is of particular importance for photography.

Pictures taken at this time of day, when dusk changes to darkness after sunset, can create a mixture of unsettling melancholy and uncertainty about the threatening black of the night, the moods that, on closer inspection, have nothing to do with the subject. Perhaps they also evoke memories of experiences at this time of day, when our powerful sense, our visual perception, begins to lose its protective power with diminishing light and invisible dangers are suspected in the shadows ...

From the right room in the right hotel you have an impressive view of the Bay of Osaka. At blue hour, the motif is almost completely filled with interesting micro-contrasts, so that the photo, appropriately enlarged and in the correct resolution, invites you to look at it for a long time.

Blue hour and Tokyo's skyscrapers

When people are at home in the blue hour and switch on the lighting in their apartments, unique pictures of apartment buildings with sweeping window fronts are achieved. During one of our trips to Japan, we managed to take this picture at the blue hour from the window of our hotel in Tokyo, which had a suitable view of a corresponding house front.
