Vágar is the third-largest of the Faroe Islands, located in the west of the archipelago. It serves as the main gateway to the Faroes, as it is home to Vágar Airport, the islands’ only international airport. The island’s main town is Sandavágur, with other notable settlements including Sørvágur and Miðvágur. Vágar features some of the Faroes’ most dramatic landscapes, such as Lake Sørvágsvatn/Leitisvatn, which appears to spill over the cliffs into the sea, and the Múlafossur Waterfall near Gásadalur, one of the islands’ most iconic sights.
