The Pacific Ocean, also known as the Pacific, is the largest ocean on Earth. Covering about one-third of the planet’s surface, it stretches from Asia and Australia in the west to the Americas in the east. The Pacific is characterized by its unique island regions (e.g., Polynesia, Micronesia, Melanesia) and by the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area of intense volcanic and tectonic activity. It plays a vital role in global climate, international trade, and marine biodiversity.
