Schaffhausen is a city and the capital of the canton of the same name in northern Switzerland, near the German border. Situated on the Rhine River, it is renowned for its well-preserved old town with richly decorated townhouses and bay windows. Its landmark is the Munot Fortress, overlooking the city. Nearby lies the famous Rhine Falls, Europe’s largest waterfall. Schaffhausen is also a cultural hub with museums, theaters, and a long tradition of winemaking.
