Öland is Sweden’s second-largest island, located in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Småland. It is connected to the mainland by the nearly seven-kilometer-long Öland Bridge. The island is famous for its vast plains, windmills, limestone formations, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Southern Öland with the Stora Alvaret, a unique karst landscape. Öland is also known for medieval castles, such as the ruins of Borgholm Castle, and its traditional villages. It is a popular holiday destination, especially in summer.
