Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia, picturesquely situated on the Ljubljanica River. The city combines historic architecture with modern culture. Its landmark is Ljubljana Castle, overlooking the old town from a hill. The city center features Baroque and Art Nouveau buildings, including the Triple Bridge designed by Jože Plečnik, who strongly shaped the city’s appearance. Ljubljana was awarded the title of European Green Capital in 2016 for its many parks, car-free old town, and vibrant cultural scene.
