Wrocław (German: Breslau) is Poland’s fourth-largest city and the capital of Lower Silesia. Located on the Oder River, it is known for its numerous bridges and islands, earning it the nickname “Venice of the East.” Wrocław has a complex history under Polish, Bohemian, Austrian, and Prussian/German rule, reflected in its architecture. Key landmarks include the Market Square with the Town Hall, the Centennial Hall (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and Cathedral Island.
