Even if the Kp index is only 2 - with a bit of luck and a clear sky you can still see them, the northern lights over the Lyngenfjord Alps. The photos selected for this post were taken in the Lyngenfjorder Alps (between 7:00 pm and 9:30 pm and directly on the Solenagen fjord, almost in front of our rented house around 10:00 pm. The phenomena were faint today, so that higher ISO values (3200 and 6400) had to be photographed and again an IRIX 11 mm f / 4.0 lens was used, which was heated to minus 15 degrees Celsius during the recording time (100 photos in 31 second intervals) with a lens heater.

The recordings with combinations of the Milky Way and Northern Lights were a challenge for the camera - but it worked well. With solo shots of these celestial objects you have more options for post-processing such as stacking for Milky Way photos in order to make more details visible. But in this project the combination of the sky phenomenon aurora and our galaxy was in the foreground.
