Sicily (Sicilia) is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and an autonomous region of Italy. Its capital is Palermo. The island has a rich history, blending Greek, Roman, Arab, and Norman influences. Famous landmarks include the active volcano Mount Etna, the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and the Baroque towns of the Val di Noto. Sicily features diverse landscapes, from beaches and mountains to fertile plains, and is renowned for its cuisine, especially dishes with citrus fruits, olive oil, and seafood.
