Schleswig-Holstein is Germany’s northernmost federal state, bordered by both the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Its capital is Kiel, with other major cities including Lübeck and Flensburg. The region is characterized by coastal landscapes with beaches, dikes, and islands such as Sylt and Fehmarn. Schleswig-Holstein combines a rich history – from the Vikings in Hedeby to the Hanseatic League – with modern maritime culture. Cultural highlights include the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Old Town of Lübeck.
