Saxony (Sachsen) is a federal state in eastern Germany, with Dresden as its capital. Other major cities include Leipzig, Chemnitz, and Zwickau. Saxony is renowned for its cultural heritage, including Dresden’s Frauenkirche, Leipzig’s Monument to the Battle of the Nations, and the traditions of the Ore Mountains. Its landscapes feature the Saxon Switzerland National Park with striking sandstone cliffs, the Upper Lusatia region, and the Ore Mountains. Saxony has a rich history as a center of art, music, and industry, and in the 19th century was one of Germany’s key industrial regions.
