Hesse (Hessen) is a federal state in central Germany, with its capital in Wiesbaden and its largest city Frankfurt am Main. The region is shaped by low mountain ranges such as the Taunus, Odenwald, and Rhön, as well as fertile plains along the Main and Rhine rivers. Hesse is an important economic and financial hub, especially due to Frankfurt, home to the European Central Bank and one of Europe’s largest airports. Culturally, Hesse is known for its half-timbered towns, castles, palaces, and traditional festivals such as the Rheingau Wine Festival.
