Bruges (Dutch: Brugge) is the capital of the Belgian province of West Flanders and one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe. Its historic center, with canals, brick architecture, and squares, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Famous landmarks include the Belfry of Bruges, the Church of Our Lady, and the Grote Markt. Often called the “Venice of the North,” Bruges is a major destination for cultural and city tourism.
