The Falkland Islands are a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic Ocean, located east of the coast of Argentina. They consist of two main islands (East Falkland and West Falkland) and hundreds of smaller islands. The Falklands are renowned for their rich wildlife, including large colonies of penguins, elephant seals, and albatrosses. The capital is Stanley. The islands became internationally known due to the Falklands War between the United Kingdom and Argentina in 1982. Today, they are a destination for nature tourism and cruises.
