Turkey lies at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, bridging the two continents geographically, culturally, and historically. A small part of the country is located in Eastern Thrace (Europe), while the vast majority lies in Anatolia (Asia). Turkey is characterized by diverse landscapes – from the beaches of the Aegean and Mediterranean to the Anatolian plateau and the mountains of Eastern Anatolia. World-famous are cities like Istanbul, the only metropolis spanning two continents, as well as ancient sites in Ephesus, Cappadocia, and Pamukkale.
