Founded in 1703 by Tsar Peter the Great, it served as the capital of the Russian Empire until 1918. The city is renowned for its magnificent architecture, canals, and palaces, as well as cultural institutions such as the Hermitage Museum. With its “White Nights” and numerous theaters, Saint Petersburg is regarded as Russia’s cultural capital.
