Baghdad is the capital of Iraq, situated on the Tigris River. Founded in the 8th century, it became one of the most important centers of the Islamic world during the Middle Ages, renowned for science, culture, and trade. Today, despite modern-day conflicts and destruction, Baghdad remains a cultural heart of the country, with mosques, markets, and universities.
