Trongsa is a town in central Bhutan and the administrative center of the district of the same name. Picturesquely located on a ridge, it is historically significant as the site of the mighty Trongsa Dzong. This monastery-fortress, built in the 17th century, is one of Bhutan’s most impressive dzongs and played a central role in the country’s political history – traditionally, Bhutanese kings had to serve as the Penlop of Trongsa before ascending to the throne. Today, Trongsa is a cultural hub with monasteries, museums, and traditional architecture.
