Galapagos penguins in the Galápagos Islands

The Galápagos penguin (Spheniscus mendiculus) is one of four species of the genus of the African penguins (Spheniscus). It occurs worldwide only on the Galápagos Islands and is the rarest penguin species with around 1,200 individuals (as of 2004).
