The Atacama Desert is located in northern Chile and is considered one of the driest regions on Earth. It is characterized by salt flats, volcanoes, sand and rock deserts, and unique landscapes such as the “Valley of the Moon.” The Atacama is an important site for astronomical observatories and is renowned for its spectacular night skies.
