Nepal, a landlocked country in South Asia and former Kingdom, borders China and India. The capital is called Kathmandu. To the north and east lies much of the Himalayas, including Mount Everest, whose summit (8,848 meters) is the highest point in the world. Seven of the other ten highest mountains in the world are also in Nepal.
