The Japanese macaques can be visited west of Kyoto in Arashiyama. To get to the park-like place, you first go to the shrine Ichitanimunakata and from there uphill for quite a long time. In order to make the ascent easier for visitors in high heat, large fans are occasionally on the way to cool down. At the destination there is a viewing platform with a cage-like building, which is not intended for the monkeys romping around but for the visitors - zoo the other way round. On arrival you will be greeted and instructed by an employee of this monkey park. It is advisable to follow the rules conscientiously - monkey bites are not a treat.
