Frogs and toads

Submitted by Jürgen Tenckhoff on Fri, 03/26/2021 - 20:05

Amphibians (Lissamphibia) such as frogs and toads belong to the order of the frogs (Anura) and are not easy to distinguish from one another. Frogs tend to be slim and agile while toads are rather sedate, stocky and slow. Especially in Panama we were able to photograph interesting frogs, which are sometimes very poisonous, so that you have to be careful when taking photos in the jungle for several reasons.

The blood moon over Liesberg

Submitted by Jürgen Tenckhoff on Sun, 02/28/2021 - 16:03

Blood moon, wolf moon - when the full moon has moved completely into the umbra of the earth (umbra eclipse), then only the long-wave red components of sunlight reach it and it glows reddish copper. However, the light reflected by it is very weak, so that low light pollution and little dust and haze in the atmosphere are prerequisites for successful recordings. Even then it is still an art to achieve halfway short exposure times so that the moon movement does not lead to image blurring.

Autumn in the Husum Castle Park

Submitted by Jürgen Tenckhoff on Wed, 10/21/2020 - 14:41

Husum's palace gardens offer many beautiful motifs and memorials are a reminder of important people such as the native writer Theodor Storm and of course Ferdinand Tönnies, the famous German sociologist.

From the monument to Theodor Storm you have very nice views of the park - this is where the color key photo was taken.

Saturn over Hennef

Can you photograph the Saturn rings with a digital camera and a telephoto lens? The test with a Nikon D850 plus Nikkor 200mm - 500mm plus 2-way converter shows the amazing result. However, these images do not want to compete with photos taken with special astro equipment.

The super moon in April 2020

Submitted by Jürgen Tenckhoff on Fri, 04/10/2020 - 14:48
Even if the color of this super moon on April 8, 2020 at 9:20 p.m. seems rather orange, it is still called the Pink Moon. This label obviously has nothing to do with its color. The terms actually arose from the rituals of the Native Americans, who saw the full moon in April in connection with the pink blooming of the flame flowers (phlox) made from the pearweed family (Polemoniaceae). Thus the super moon became the messenger of the approaching spring.

Startrails with rocks over the Atlantic

The interesting rock formations in the north of La Palma can also be used as objects for star trail photography. Here is an example on a - unfortunately - somewhat busy road, so that only about 100 of the 200 pictures were usable. But the picture basically shows the idea of the composition ... even if it is more suitable for documentation than for wall decoration. Or is it?

Startrails over volcanoes

Submitted by Jürgen Tenckhoff on Wed, 11/30/2016 - 20:29

We were in a good position with our car in the wide lava deserts of Lanzarote with a good view to the north, where volcanoes lined up. The orange village lights even convey a volcanic pseudo effect on the horizon. Many of the 200 pictures were usable, so that beautiful star trails can now be seen over the volcanoes of Lanzarote.
