Moon landing?

Submitted by Jürgen Tenckhoff on Sun, 03/28/2021 - 12:43

In a photo series of around 50 images of a super moon, an unexpected object came in front of the lens: an airplane that was flying very high.

This coincidence led to an interesting photo that could hardly have been planned.

My Nikkor 500 mm f / 4.0 and a 2-fold converter were used.

Cefalu in the province of Palermo in Sicily is a pretty little town by the sea that lives mainly from tourism. The colorful boats on the beach are a popular photo opportunity. A hike up the nearby mountain offers a good balance to the narrow street canyons and attracts with beautiful views of the town.

Jupiter over Hennef

Submitted by Jürgen Tenckhoff on Wed, 08/05/2020 - 17:44

To the right of Saturn, the radiantly bright Jupiter is currently appearing in the south above the horizon. After the images of Saturn, Jupiter should also be photographed.

The goal was to make the huge red whirlwind eye of Jupiter visible - well, that didn't work now but at least you can see in the photos that Jupiter is not a disk either :-)

Saturn over Hennef

Can you photograph the Saturn rings with a digital camera and a telephoto lens? The test with a Nikon D850 plus Nikkor 200mm - 500mm plus 2-way converter shows the amazing result. However, these images do not want to compete with photos taken with special astro equipment.

Deadvlei and Sossusvlei

Submitted by Jürgen Tenckhoff on Thu, 05/21/2020 - 19:46

The access road from Sessriem to the Sossusvlei (Sossus means "blind river" in the Nama language, Vlei in Africaans stands for sink) is paved, but it ends about 5 km before the actual destination in a large parking lot . If you are not only traveling with an off-road vehicle, but can also drive in the sand with it, you can do the remaining kilometers by motor. For everyone else there is a shuttle service as an alternative, which should also be used if you are not sure about your driving skills in the sand.

Photo technique: "Blue Hour"

Submitted by Jürgen Tenckhoff on Sun, 10/15/2017 - 18:55

The blue hour is of particular importance for photography.

Pictures taken at this time of day, when dusk changes to darkness after sunset, can create a mixture of unsettling melancholy and uncertainty about the threatening black of the night, the moods that, on closer inspection, have nothing to do with the subject. Perhaps they also evoke memories of experiences at this time of day, when our powerful sense, our visual perception, begins to lose its protective power with diminishing light and invisible dangers are suspected in the shadows ...

Avenues in infrared

Submitted by Jürgen Tenckhoff on Sat, 07/06/2013 - 11:01
The birch avenues in Hennef between the villages of Söven and Westerhausen and also the plane trees on the Rhine promenade in Mainz are magnificent to look at, regardless of the recording technology. Infrared imaging technology succeeds in placing it in a bizarre "light" - white leaves on birch trees? White leaves in summer? A cyclist in a shirt under a wintry canopy?
