Sillamäe - seaside resort, war location, uranium mining

Submitted by Jürgen Tenckhoff on Sun, 05/03/2020 - 19:35
Today's Sillamäe high up in the north-east of the Republic of Estonia has experienced a lot - even from the map it had to disappear when the Soviet Union began mining and enriching uranium here after the occupation of Estonia. The corresponding environmental damage extends to the present. In the northwestern part of the city there is a nuclear and chemically contaminated storage pond directly on the Baltic Sea coast. But where there is shadow, there must also be light (freely according to ...) and this shines particularly beautifully on the elegant stairs and promenades on the Baltic Sea coast.
